DJ was a born musician. He would sing on key in his toddler years. At eight years old, he began studying the cello with Elliot Cheney. He learned and progressed quickly and his love of music grew. When he had reached the sixth grade, DJ was writing compositions and earning awards. About that same time, he saw his friend, Dave Crosby playing the guitar and wanted to follow suit. It took a while to get started, but in the summer after ninth grade, he began studying with Benjamin Carter. Meanwhile, DJ continued to play the cello and became the assistant principle cellist for the Young Artist Chamber Players. In high school, DJ played in numerous quartets for special occasions including a lunch for the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Gordon B. Hinckley. He joined the Troubadours, his high school men’s chorus, and gained a love for barbershop music. His junior year, he was the Troubadour president. In the summer of 2004, he toured with an orchestra, The Rocky Mountain Youth Camarata, playing in England, Switzerland, Italy, and France. As a sophomore in high school, DJ and David collaborated in writing their first song together, called "Missing You." He and David join forces to create most of the band’s songs. His vocal harmonies are inventive and received with praise. Last summer, he finished his freshman year at Utah State, where he attended on a full tuition music scholarship. He is a music major and studies with Anne Francis of the Fry Street Quartet. He is currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Birmingham England.
