Emily Nicolich

Emily began playing the violin just before her sixth birthday. Studying the Suzuki method with her Aunt Lori Smith and later Kathy Parker, her passion grew for the instrument. Later, she started studying with Jack Ashton and continued taking lessons from him through her high school days. Emily also composed music throughout Junior High and High School. Her compositions received awards through the Reflections program, ultimately receiving national recognition.

She has also competed in many violin competitions. She won the 2000 Utah ASTA competition and received honorable mentions at the regional competition. She also played in many orchestras including The Young Artist Chamber Players, and toured Europe with the Rocky Mountain String Camarata. Though she always played classically, she longed to play in other styles as well. Her brother in law would try to play with her, but she was petrified of playing wrong notes and being laughed at. Later, she received a talent scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston where she studied with Mimi Rabson and gained the confidence necessary to improvise.

After moving back to Utah, she started playing with DJ (who had since taken up guitar, as well as being an accomplished cellist) and loved every moment of it. It was only natural for them to be in a band together - and with David, Finally Friday was born. Emily loved her time playing with the band and counts those memories as some of her fondest. She looks forward to playing with the boys again when everyone returns from their current adventures. Emily now lives with her husband Bill in Georgia. There is a violin studio downstairs and a nursery upstairs; that’s right, a nursery. The Nicolich family was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Sally Rose, on October 13th (a Friday) 2006. Emily is currently working on publishing hymn arrangements for violin, cello, and piano. Teaching is also a passion of hers. She has a small teaching studio, but is always looking for more students.
